Spring is almost here, but you still need a little something to keep the chill off your shoulders. Not too bulky, not too thick, it should slip easily over your shoulders on a warmer day or under a jacket on a chilly one. This uniquely constructed capelet is knit flat beginning at one edge, divides for the neck and is seamed down the opposite shoulder. The sideways construction creates a lot of visual interest as the lines shift from horizontal on one side, to diagonal across the chest and vertical at the end. The slightly asymmetrical drape is on the bias and fits the shoulders perfectly, no matter which way you wear it! With 2 sizes available, you can work up your ideal springtime accessory!
Small/Worsted version requires 2 skeins (about 400yds) of worsted weight yarn and 5.5mm (US9) needles with a gauge of 16.5 sts/4in.
Large/Aran version requires 2 skeins (about 400yds) of Aran/Light Chunky yarn and 6.5mm (US10.5) needles with a gauge of about 12.5sts/4in.
The Cantata used in the Large version has a worsted weight/length but knits up with a chunky gauge, due to the tubular cotton & blown-in merino construction of the yarn. You’ll need about 400+ yards of your chosen yarn, however much that weighs.
The overall structure is very basic and the textured panels can be knit in any order. Each texture stitch is fully described and includes a video tutorial. Also included is a video tutorial on M1L/R – never forget which is which or how to make them again! This pattern is suitable for an adventurous beginner who has a good handle on knit and purl and is ready to learn more! Stitch and row descriptions are written with the beginner in mind, but in a separate stitch dictionary so that advanced knitters can breeze through the abbreviated pattern without getting bogged down. Just print the pages you need!
Both sizes will easily fit figures of all shapes and sizes, the main difference is in the length. Our models have a 34” and 45” bust, respectively, and both capelets look great on them!
